Description
An attractive antique American majolica glazed fireplace tile, dating from the 19th century, and found in a home in Philadelphia, PA. The tile features a silhouette of a Roman soldier wearing a helmet with feathers. It was manufactured by The Old Bridge Tile Co. located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. The company was founded by William E. Rivers in 1890; in 1903 the company consolidated with the Robertson Art Tile Co. of Trenton and the Columbia Encaustic Tile Co. of Anderson, IN, to form the National Tile Co. The tile is in very good condition with the expected surface crazing (as pictured.) It measures 4-1/8†by 4-1/8â€.
